Throughout the last couple of sessions, our class has been seeing and hearing our final presentations for this assignment. All presentations from all groups covered important and relevant topics, spreading awareness about them. These presentations resulted from 4 different groups, including mine.     While working on this project for our group, Group 1, we had to adhere to a few guidelines. To start off, our 2 main topics that we chose were focusing on healthcare and immigration. We needed to have the following sections for each topic: background information, how the topic is dealt with in the U.S compared to outside the country, local and national organizations dealing with said topic, and lastly, an interview with someone experienced in that topic. After splitting our parts among our group members and working on the presentation, we were finally finished and ready to present.     Before our group went up, all the other groups presented their par...

Lessons, Laughter, and Learning: My Theme Project Experience. I didn’t just learn from the presentations—I discovered the power of teamwork, honest conversations, and a little bit of laughter along the way. I don’t even know where to start describing how much I not only enjoyed but was genuinely helped by the presentations in the theme project. All the groups covered very interesting and timely topics, which made it really easy to stay engaged. I think we’ve improved a lot since the first presentation—maybe we just got rid of the nerves, or maybe practice really does make perfect! Whatever the reason, there was a clear sense of growth, confidence, and teamwork across the board that made this whole experience even more fulfilling. I’ve enjoyed this teamwork more than the previous one. My group had much better chemistry, and each member contributed very useful insights that made the work run smoothly. It felt like everyone really wanted to be there, to collaborate, and to make the final ...

Alondra Martinez SPC2608 Blog #2 Listening to all of the presentations really helped me understand the theme of “People Matter.” Each presentation focused on important topics like healthcare, immigration, education, the environment, and the economy. Even though they seemed like different issues at first, they all connected to the main idea of how people’s lives are affected by the systems and decisions around them. It was clear that these topics are not just abstract ideas, they directly impact real people every day. This made me realize how important it is to care about what is happening in our communities and the world. One thing that stood out to me was the presentation on healthcare. It made me think about how access to medical care can completely change someone’s life. I had never really thought about how complicated healthcare can be until I heard examples of people who don’t have enough care or insurance. Health problems are not just personal struggles, they affect families, f...

Reflecting on Presentation Day: A Collection of Insightful and Engaging Topics Presentation days in class are always a mix of anticipation, curiosity, and sometimes a little nervous energy. Everyone brings their best effort, their ideas, and their perspectives to the table, and together we get to see a snapshot of how differently people can approach a topic. This round of presentations was no exception. Each group came prepared with thoughtful research, clear organization, and confident speaking, and it was easy to see that everyone had put in a lot of work. What made this particular set of presentations especially interesting was the range of topics we heard about — each one different but equally relevant and engaging. There were four groups in total, including mine, and every presentation stood out in its own way. What I appreciated most was how diverse the subjects were. No two groups covered the same issue or angle, yet every topic felt important and meaningful. It made the experie...

Ashley Martinez presentation

Over the last couple of weeks, our class worked on a project where we had to pick two topics from a list and then make a presentation about them. We had to research, connect them to real life, and talk about what we learned. I’m in Group One, and after a lot of talking, we chose immigration and healthcare. We picked these because they felt personal. Everyone in our group either moved here themselves or has family who did. So instead of just picking random subjects, we chose something that we actually care about and understand in our own ways. When we first started talking about immigration, it felt like this huge topic. You hear about it constantly on the news, but you don’t really think about how complicated it is until you hear real stories. Some of us in the group came to the U.S. when we were younger, and we remembered what it felt like to be confused about everything. Some people talked about not knowing English and getting frustrated in school. Other people shared how their paren...

Recently I started an online speech class, I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially when it comes to presentations. My group went up first then I watched the other groups present. I usually dislike online classes because I feel they are distant, but I found myself really interested and engaged during the presentations my classmates gave, I learned so much! not just about giving a speech, but also about myself as a speaker, a teammate  and a listener . I was thinking it would just be about learning how to speak in front of people, but through the presentations and the group work, I felt less nervous, and learned that public speaking is only a part of the bigger picture. Also being able to listen actively , collaborate with others, and communicate clearly in a team setting is just as important. Each presentation focused on a different part of public speaking. From understanding the craft , to learning how to build confidence , to communicating effectively with different types of audie...

Alondra Martinez  Blog #1 - Public Speaking   Watching everyone deliver this first class presentation was encouraging and made me realize we all have things to learn. I think all four groups did great overall and made everything work out as smooth as possible to deliver their presentation clearly. I think group 1 as known as my group did very well. I know for a fact we were all nervous or not 100% confident but made sure our point was thoroughly made. I believe we had a great introduction and outro, there were some difficulties yet in the end everything was resolved and nicely done. This group covered the importance of confidence in one’s speech which was ironic since we lacked it but finished off more confident than before. We also covered how communication has been of importance for centuries as a tool for survival and now to bring people together through many types of forms, such as virtually. Building credibility is a big one too that was brought up and very importa...
